Recently multiple patients came to me to complain about their allergic reactions (Hay fever).
I understand how allergic reactions affect us because when I was young, I had Hay Fever. Every allergic season I would have the below symptoms:
-
- runny nose
- itchiness of nose, throat, ears
- sneezing, stuffy nose
- redness, watering, and itching of the eyes
Although it is now cured, I still remember the painful experience I had in the past.
Therefore I would like to introduce 5 food that could help you to alleviate hay fever symptoms.
Foods to Alleviate Hay Fever Symptoms:
1. Ginger
From a Chinese Medicine perspective, hay fever is caused by ‘Cold’ external pathogens invading our body.
Therefore taking ginger, which has a ‘Warm’ property, can balance the body out.
One of the best ways is to boil ginger in a pot of hot water, then mix in brown sugar.
2. Lemon
Lemons are rich in Vitamin C which can help with the allergic reactions. But many often forget that lemon skin are more effective.
Therefore we can cut lemon into slices and put the whole piece into the water, and adding honey.
3. Bee Pollen
Not all stores carry bee pollen. This usually can be found from local farmer’s market. It has anti-inflammatory properties.
It is best to choose local bee pollen to specifically tackle the local allergens.
You can add bee pollen and honey into hot water, stir and drink!
4. Onion
Onions are a great resource of quercetin, which is a plant flavonol that can reduce the symptoms of seasonal allergies.
Among all types of onions, Raw red onions have the highest concentration of quercetin.
5. Turmeric
Turmeric is famous for its anti-inflammatory properties. It can also help minimize swelling and irritation caused by allergens.
This can be taken in pills, teas or food. Studies have shown turmeric can reduce allergic response during hay fever seasons.
Besides diet, pressure points massage could also help to relieve symptoms of Hay Hever. Click on the below video to learn what are the points.
